Re: Some sheduled maintenance
This old D8 is working 14 hour days at the moment.
Been out since after Christmas.
Must be time for a rest soon.
The D8R has been stripping topsoil and overburden .
It's a great machine, but not as good as the older ones in soft going.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
Repairing blade skin on one of the D8's by the local welder.
Checking another one over ready for a scraper job on Monday morning .
Had to fettle the aircon on the D8R during this hotspell.
Was 35 degrees in bottom of pit the other day.
Got to get the D8R serviced this month too.
It will get all the filters plus new engine oil.
I change the tranny, hyd and fuel filters every 250 hours.
Filters are cheap in the battle against oil contam8nation and dirt.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
Currently stripping sod off fields to keep topsoil clean,to stack into heaps for garden centres around the country.
It has to be spot on to make the grade and a box is to only tool for the job for such a large area.
Currently have about 6 weeks to go at,then hoping for more to be released throughout this year and next.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
Chucking it down with rain in that first pic; do you heap the topsoil for them after you have removed the sod? Not so hard on the equipment I'd guess?
Nice pics thanks for sharing.

Yes Jeremy, once sod is off,I strip soil and take it the gates.
This field will yield around 10000 ton and it's costing them around 0.58p per cube to get it there.
That's 7 quid a load in their eyes.
They've been spending 18 quid a load stripping it and making a mess since Christmas with hard-core roads and diggers etc.
The site is massive
