Big trucks

Post #1 by Niklas Eriksson » Mon Jul 09, 2007 8:42 pm

Hi!

I found this pic while browsing the internet. I asked on an American equipment forum I use to visit if anyone knew anything about these heavy transformator transports, is the reply I got:

"The old heavy transport units by the south african railroad company.
They are transporting real big things from harbours to dam projects in Africa.
Transformers and such, several houndred tonns.

They have changed the vehicles for new ones from Nicolas in France.
And the firm is renamed.
Theese old ones where produced in the US. Western pasific if i am not wrong."

Pretty impressive eh?

Great Pics Niklas  Thanks for posting them. 8-)

Looks very impresive. Looks like 5 Tractors. 4 up front and one at the rear :?:

They can be hooked to each other and only one driver needs on the front truck. The others trucks front weels is is a bit abowe the ground when they are hooked togeter.

Hi all! Yes I can confirm that those "trucks" belonged to the then South African Railways, now referred to as TransNet.
The ABNORMAAL sign on the front is in Afrikaans.

Geez, those must have been taken about 30 to 35 years ago...
