I'll see what i can find , but it may be very little . Local photographers seemed to like snapping demolition sites which is good for me searching the archives!

Hi Martyn and all! Sorry not to have a bunch of nifty photos (like these) to contribute, but certainly enjoy the view. :D

Excellent stuff Craig!

Yes, that is a Case tracked shovel - says so on the counterweight! ;)

The pic of the scrapers and dozers on the waste heap ('bing' as we would say up here) reminds me of jobs around here with Shellabear, do you have any further details?

Sometimes the bing would be burning badly because of the coal content, and the scraper tyres would catch alight! A dozer driver got a bravery award on a job in Fife for rescuing a scraper driver from his machine on just such an occasion. It was a Tractor Shovels Ltd. job IIRC.

It's a Shellabear Price scraper (make ??) if you click on for the full size pic you can see signwriting. All I know is its in Wales.

Impressed you can identify Shellabear's machines without seeing name!

Quite exotic for Wales in 1962 - Mercedes with Blaw Knox mixer.

Unusual use for scraper ,AEC Coles loads one with bridge bits

I'd say the Merc & mixer was on demo as looks new.

The AEC Coles lookes as if its dismantling the bridge as no near parapet and day light between the girders fro 3/4 of the width of road. Is the man bent down in the middle using a gas axe to cut the deck out ?

Only reasons to use scraper I can think of is its size to carry lumps of girder way or drop the ballast into and it was handy on site ? or salvage some of the beams for an accommodation bridge on site.

The smart Merc / Blaw Knox mixer does look like a demonstrator, wonder how sales went, most of the lads in pic would have been fighting the Germans not long before ! but think the consensus was their kit was a lot better.
