Nice one Rob  it's quite amazing at just what different companies manufactured, it just shows the engineering experience and heritage that was once part of our country.

There are some of these in Barcelona's only surviving proper station.

Unfortunately they're not in the condition seen here any more after a train ruined the shanks of the buffers it collided with.

Lovely to see, more pics would be great. I'm only really familiar with the buffers and also one of their cranes, so would love to see more. I think I'm right in saying that Ransomes Sims and Jeffries originated from Ransomes & Rapier, and became separate as farm mechanisation advanced early on. I could be very wrong.

Sandy, I believe RSJ came first . Then Ransome set up.on the other day of the river at Waterside Works . All these engineers have gone in Ipswich which is a shame but on the other hand l.got a job in the council as a technician and retired with a pension which I don't think I would have got that if the company had kept going which is a shame as it was a great place to work ..Rob

That is a shame, with all those lovely things that were made yet those who made them might well have had a hard time later. Hopefully they'll be remembered by their wonderful creations.
