Should I convert my old PITA fuel filter?

Should I convert my old 500 piece Perkins 4.236 fuel filter w/glass bowl to simpler 2 piece screw on type? Will I really miss the transparency?

The new piece I want is not that cheapy $40 DP1000 kit or the WAY overpriced $220+ Foleyengines conversion kit (same thing) that screws onto existing filter head. Those kits should really be called adapters. The conversion piece I want has the male threaded nipple cast into head. And, it will only be about $25 delivered. Any thoughts?

John have you been having any issues with the old one? If not don't fix what isn't broken as the old saying goes.

Your description makes it sound like the CAV296 which I rather like, but I could imagine it's hard to get to when mounted in a tight engine bay.

If it's this filter you want in place, Donaldson offer a drain bowl you can add below the spin-on filter to see what has collected.
