Hi, as title states, which battery would one recommend for a 1987 3cx machine, at the moment?
The standard specs seem to be be;
105Ah
750 cold crank amps,
Could anyone assist whether it’s worth it for a Yuasa or which battery model is the favourite?
Cheers

Must say that I have never rated Yuasa, I prefer Exide batteries myself, I know that Andrew who is the farmer where my machines are kept also doesn't rate Varta batteries as they can suddenly fail, he told me he has had machines breakdown halfway across a field with a Varta battery failure.
When I changed the battery on my Poclain I chose Exide to replace a failed Yuasa, also not had good experience with Yuasa on motorcycles, just my views anyway.

Thanks for the info, interesting that things like that have happened with them, Varta was another name that kept popping up but seem pricey like yuasa as well.
I suppose most people think they are the favourites but just a brand name at the day, even a Halfords own brand would be good enough I would have thought? Some come with 2 or 4 or 5 year warranties as well.
Was also wondering on the spec for that machine, and what CCA and Amp hours people usually go for on a Jcb ?

I would find the number type of the battery that fits with the highest cca and 3 year guarantee. I would also fit a isolator if the digger is not often used.

Slightly different market, but I used to work in a motorbike workshop - most of our customers were couriers who clocked a lot of miles (one guy retired his xt660 just before it got to 600,000km).
The point is, we saw the same bikes from cradle to grave, so got a very good feeling for the value of all the battery brands on offer, the universal truth was that price = life-span.
With Yuasa, there were 'japanese made' (premium price), and 'chinese made' (medium price) - the 'price = lifespan' still applied.
All of this assumes the charge system is working correctly - an under/over charging alt/gen can destroy any battery

That’s fair enough, and nice to see the value for money in parts like that in everyday use in the real world.
I ended up going for a 100A with around 880CCA and works well, also fitted an isolator so if there’s any leakage it may prevent any draining while it’s sat there.

Just one point I forgot with the observations above - these were all working bikes, not 'fair weather queens'. They were out most days, so battery self-discharge never came into it.
For a machine only started once a month (or less), this may need to be considered.
