3c engine oil

Looking for correct spec engine oil for a JCB 2c Mk2 (leyland engine), something that won't cause issues for seals and some metallic components!!

Hi and welcome there is a Leyland manual in the JCB section of the files that you can download, my best guess is that the specifications for the oil will be in there.

JCB recommend Mobil Delvac, from 1310 to 1330, and JCB Super X Universal, but any good SAE 10W to SAE 30W will do. Temperatures are 30ºF to 81ºF for SAE 20W, SAE 10W below 30ºF and SAE 30W above 81ºF. Can go through the other oils if you want.

It depends a bit on how you use the machine - most older machines don't get started in the morning and do a full days work, any more. More commonly, they get started cold and do 15min work and may not reach full operating temp - which is yours?

Any reputable brand will have a suitable offering, but don't let the sales man 'up-sell' you a top of the range modern oil - at best, it will have a bunch of additives/ refinements irrelevant to your engine. At worst, it won't hold oil pressure at idle when warm and the engine will be noisy from the piston slap.

Delvac 1310 is 10W mono-grade oil, which will probably suit your use.
If you work the machine hard, I'd run a 10W-30 multi grade

Consider all the tech advice you can find, but stick to the mantra (repeat after me): Clean Oil Is Good Oil.

Beware of modern oils, some have additives that are not suitable for old engines, and never use synthetic oils. Start stop type work is far harder on the engine, it will run more hours with no oil that way (only a few turns each start but it adds up). If you can't hold the oil pressure you'll need to investigate that, it's not a risk you can really accept.
