Post #1 by Seppl » Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:47 am

I acquired an older jcb 3d2 backhoe.
Wonder if someone could help find out what year and what Engine is in it?
Machine serial # says 106665/3 and
Tractor serial # says 384B 187304.

Sounds like a torque converter one, late mid 1974. Engine number should be on block under injector no. 4 and start 4/98. Gearbox number is on rear flange towards the RH side, starting 10B. Great JCB, glad to see another one here. You'll also find casting codes on all the Nuffield parts.

What is the engine number?
A pic or two might help if the number is unreadable.

For parts for Nuffield (Leyland and Marshall too) I always recommend Charnleys. the seal is part no. AAU6234 and is fitted to all 4/98 engines as well as the earlier engines in the Nuffield 3/45 and 4/65.

Unfortunately on the plate you don't normally get the complete engine number. Check under injector no. 4, where the full number is.
