oil query
oil query
Quick question, what oil is in the hydra system on my 3c? Is it a standard hydraulic oil or something like a super universal like in my Massey backend? Also where is the best to get hydraclamp seals from? Are they the black and yellow washer type seals i can see advertised on ebay? Thanks

Re: oil query
Mobil DTE24 is ISO32 hyd oil. 32 is generally recommended but 46 will do,especially if the machine is worn as it's a bit thicker.
Handiest place,I find for the clamp seals,is from www.diggerparts.net or indeed ebay. (they sell on ebay too).Yes,black/yellow.

Good luck removing the big nuts that hold on the clamps! They are usually a pig to get loosened.Especially if the bolt decides to turn as well.Sometimes easier to cut through with an angle grinder and just miss the threads of the bolt and put new nuts on.

Re: oil query
A JCB fitter recommended that I use 46 grade hydraulic fluid in my 3C MKII. My local JCB dealer sells Castrol Hyspin AWH 46. Not sure if the different climate here in Australia makes a difference though. They might recommend a slightly thicker oil in warmer weather, although once the machine warms up it should run at the same temperature where ever you are!

Re: oil query
When I was a mobile fitter I only used to carry HVI 46 on the van and it was used on all machines that I worked on.
HVI 46 Hydraulic Fluid is suitable for hydraulic systems that are subjected to a wide temperature range and operating temperatures. The specific viscosity modifiers ensure the fluid is stable at high temperatures, providing supreme anti-wear properties in highly stressed hydraulic systems including gear, vane and piston type pump systems.
Bear in mind that its a few years since I was a mobile fitter so oil spec's will have advanced
