Also, how does the boom side shift operate? is there a way of unclamping it from the cab and do you then push the kingpost across by moving the bucket?

There should be a single lever mounted to one side of the main levers which releases the pressure in the hydra clamps. Swing the boom to one side and lower to floor. When every thing is a bit worn an slack they can be a bit of a pig to slide but the trick is to keep the king post vertical. I used to find that shifting by un-curling the bucket could be more effective than pushing with the dipper. If next to a heap of something it ight be even easier. Just have a go you will find out how it works! On finishing shift return the lever and operate a service under pressure. That will re-pressurise the hydr-clamps.

I would like to add a bit more to the instructions on how to move a back actor across the rails.

First, get the digger straight out behind the machine so that the boom is at right angles to the rails and with the bucket on the ground. Then operate the Hydra-clamp valve lever to release the pressure. Then push down gently with the digger so as to slightly lift the digger off the ground. By doing this you have "opened" the two bottom Hydra-clamps.

Then, while still having the digger out behind the machine, lift the digger off the floor. This will "open" the two top clamps.

By "opening" all 4 clamps you have allowed the kingpost carriage to come away from the rails and the sliding across will be easier.

Now you can slew the boom to the side and it is always easier to push the kingpost across rather than to pull it. And placing the bucket flat on the ground and "opening" it is the most effective way of pushing and taking the weight off the rails at the same time.

Push your kingpost to wherever you want it on the rails.

Then pick the boom up and slew it straight back behind the digger and at right angles to the rails. Have a quick look at the Kingpost carriage and see if it is level with the top of the rails. Then close the Hydra-clamp valve and lift the boom right up. Make sure that the boom is right up and then the clamps will be tight. The reason for tightening the clamps when the boom is at right angles to the digger is because it is a bad idea to tighten them when the kingpost is slewed over to one side because it is possible to get the clamps lopsided and if this happens if they aren't adjusted properly it can pop out part of the seal. They will also invariably leak if the clamps are tightened when the clamp bolts are "on the skunt"
Six up front .............................means plenty of grunt.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies, I worked out the kingpost shift myself but It's nice to know you're doing it right. Also, thanks for pointing out the operators manual in the downloads section.
