Take one bolt out to see what length it is(I can't remember!) Then loosen the rest enough that you can get it cleaned up and apply a siligasket from an applicator gun or aerosol.No need to take the plate off completely then....
The breather plug is also the fill point.

I assume it's the same as later models where the filler/breather is deep between the boom webs - probably need to lower the boom to get access.
Mine was multi-piece plastic device that was mostly absent, so I replaced it with a poly pipe plug that I drilled for breathing and jammed a little petrol filter in to keep dirt out.
