Norm, if you could find a joiner to link the first pipe in to the last one, bypassing the clamps, you might see what happens with the clamps?

The lever needs pushed away (anti clockwise) from you to release the clamps. The rotating part that the vertical rod goes into may need pushed around further with a pry bar or suchlike.
