Hi,
Could you tell me if I can use a crank from a tractor 4.236 to go into my 3cx 4.236. To me it seems possible but I suspect there may be reasons not to.

Re: 3CX crankshaft
okay, thank you for that. They both do have lip seals so it seems ''hopeful''.
Any thoughts on how I determine which size liners and head gasket to order? The number I have is LD22574U985564L and there are 103, 104 and 105mm options. The supplier says that he can't advise from the number.

Re: 3CX crankshaft
A clued up supplier should be able to sort out the parts you need from the number you have given.
That number equates to:
LD 4.236
22574 parts list no.
U UK built
985564 engine serial number
L year 1984.
Just as an example,I had a quick look at the below website for Sparex stuff and I reckon S.41373 is the liner required. No flame ring and 104.24mm outer diameter.
http://www.malpasonline.co.uk/itm/Piston-Cylinder-Liners/Liner-for-perkins-a4236-4236-series/41373#sthash.DBP2GFAY.dpbs
You can see for yourself that your number relates to that liner.
Am thinking this will be the head gasket also.

(You would need to double check on these things though).
Are you fitting pistons and rings too?
Can't you measure the present liners etc?
One other point though is that if the engine has been bored before to accept a different from standard liner, then the above will not apply!

Re: 3CX crankshaft
Thanks for the explanation, exactly what I wanted and really what I was expecting from the (potential) supplier. Yes I can measure the stuff but just wasn't very confident.
