Going back to the 6 wheel AEC skip truck, if you zoom in it looks like a live blast going off in the hill behind.

Yes, but what is also interesting is the 22RB in the background is fitted with an electro-magnet

Nice classic pictures there Steve the Wimpey 580C in the first photo and the 580 with the short dipper arm and grab in the second photo.
The last photo of the gas men digging up the road the hard way in winter looks hard work.
