Going back to the 6 wheel AEC skip truck, if you zoom in it looks like a live blast going off in the hill behind.

Yes, but what is also interesting is the 22RB in the background is fitted with an electro-magnet

the Wimpey 580C in the first photo and the 580 with the short dipper arm and grab in the second photo.

A couple of posts back, the Birchfield cinema in Perry Bar was demolished around 1962/3, I would guess the photo to be about the same.
The picture with the 'road up' signs I think is the junction of Anlaby Road and Arnold St. in Hull. The yard by the junction looks like it has 'Police' lanterns on the gateposts and what appears to be an unusual phone box outside. Any idea of the date?

It is Hull but no idea of the date though.
