Fiat 680 bosch pump problem

Post #1 by noshanseven4615 » Wed Sep 25, 2024 6:34 pm

my fiat 680 had a very leaky bosch va4 pump. So i bougth a new o ring to have around the hydraulic head. The job needed me to unmount the rpm regulating assembly from the outside first. but i did not mark how the different things were mounted, so i looked at youtube assembling this. and when i tried to start it, it shot up to 3000rpm, and the stop did not work (i ended up killing it using 4th gear) so my thougths are thet i have assembled the connecting plate between regulator and stop-wire, and gas pedal. so if anyone has the workshop manual or any knowledge for the bosch va4 0460314038 (fiat pump number: 110H1250CL-77138), it would help alot.

Hi Hans, welcome  it sounds to me that you may have assembled something incorrectly, I hope that another member here can point you in the right direction; as for a manual I would check EBay, also look at other websites as this type of fuel pump is common on other vehicles.

Can't really help here but it sounds like something is jammed badly. If you ever have a runaway again plug the air intake, it will avoid damage (if the stop control doesn't work). Working on pumps is a very precise affair with little room for error, you should try and get the pump on a calibrating machine and see how it responds. Could be a stuck meetering valve (thodse are in CAV DPA's, don't know if the Bosch VA is the same), on an inline pump it could be the rack being stuck but again don't know if this has anything like either of those. On the calibrating machine ensure you cut the fuel off a bit before the stop lever hits its stop, otherwise there might be some governor issues too. And always ensure everything is clean. Without a calibrating machine you can cause real damage, no pump should be dismantled unless such equipent is available.
