Hi All,
Lent it to a friend - sigh...
Said he was just driving and the hydraulics blew out as pictured? Any hints before I start looking at it? It's in a bad spot so i want a bit of info to minimise the time i spend in mud and leeches to repair her.
Some sort of pressure relief failure?
Have never had to do much to thw hydraulics on this old girl so i am largely ignorant.
Thanks,
Brad

Must say it looks a very odd design to me surely there should be a bracket to hold the pipe into position, you can see a bolt near to that end of the pipe so I wonder if a bracket which was holding this in place has failed due to age? Just a shot in the dark here as I have no experience of these machines.

This piece is removable as there is a filter on the end of it. I can't remember what holds it in, if anything! I'm sure it is on the suction side of the pump so there's a good chance it's just a push fit. I suspect he just caught a foot on it while getting on/off, it's a pretty poor design.
Undo the jubilee clips, pull the whole thing out, give it all a good clean and refit with the filter and O ring pushed fully home.
I had a B275 as my daily driver for 3 years and can still clearly remember how hot those pipes got when working hard.

If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Exactly. The 3pl hydraulic pump is on the engine so there is the feed line with the filter going forward and the pressure line back to the control valves. Looks like this one has the pipes running side by side, the 275 had one pipe each side of the trans.

Yes I was being a bit lazy. Was mainly interested in if this was a known thing and to get a jump on fixing it.
Particularly since it really just seems to sit there with just love holding it in place.
Odd design.

It may even be a push/twist fit, I simply can't remember.
As you can tell from the pic it was 'stockman style' circa 1982. The seat was from either a Morris minor or an early Sunbeam Rapier, whatever it was from it just perched on the gearbox, wasn't attached at all so you could take it indoors at night.
