Volvo A40EFS

Post #1 by nixs » Mon Jun 25, 2007 8:01 pm

As no one have written in this thread yet i start with a little information about the Volvo Articulated Hauler with FS = Full Suspension. I there in Eskilstuna at Volvos demonstration field at their event called "Volvodagarna", Volvodays in English. They have built a A40E with gas-hydraulic individual suspension on every wheel. The had one unit to demonstrate this in a course with plenty of bumps and they ran at full speed and fully loaded with gravel and yet it just "floated" over the bumps! Very impressive to watch! Sorry but i don´t have any pictures to share with.

Hello. Pics of this truck would have been fantastic. 8-)

I am not a fan of the suspension system found on the new EFS machine. I bet its more comfy and fast over the bumpy stuff but at what price?
I am glad they have stuck with the Rear beam and elephant foot set up of old. (which has been copied by CAT)

Older CAT 350s have hydraulic-counter acting cylinders on there rear bogies and they tend to break on long bumpy haul roads. ;) (single Units on the front. Accumulated)

I also think Volvo should revert back to Grease filled Osculating hitches like the C machines.
I am not sure if the E machines come with the D series Oil filled hitch? Anybody? :?: :?:

Also. I think ALL A35s should come with sealed brake packs on all 6 hubs. Just like the A40D Truck. :D

They say that it´s not an A40E with suspension. They say that it´s a complete new machine.
I don´t know if it´s true but I´m pretty sure they have "recycled" some parts.

Oh, there´s an A35E FS as well. The smaller ones don´t exist with FS. Not yet.

I think this suspension system is pretty well approved! Was it not like that when Volvo introduced the arm suspension in the 80ths?

Well, only time will tell. Maybe a mistake like the oil filled hitch 8-)

I think Ross mean if the chock absorbers (stötdämpare) is filled with oil and can lift and sink the dumptruck IE. is adjustable.

Is that right Ross :?:

The Osculating hitch. The Part that connects the Tractor end to the trailer end. Drive shaft runs through the middle of it.

This Part arrowed in the Pic 8-)
