I;'m intrigued Martyn, what's involved in servicing one of them engines. I am sure its more than just pulling the sump plug and dropping th old oil on the tracks What's the intervals, quantities and oil types for something like the one in the picture.
Guess you wouldn't need to worry about checking the steering

Hello Richard
The oil changes are done at a depot because it takes nearly 45 gallon. We do filters, injectors and sometimes brake blocks.I have used a jcb to change buffers. An "a" exam is done monthly and E exam is done 5 yearly. These 50 tone shunting engines are moved to depot by road. The nearest depot to Onllwyn is Margam. We do up to C exams on site. An E exam can be an engine overhaul.Oil used is a 20/50 grade which is used in all locomotives.
Go onto GOOGLE and type in CANTON RIP and you will see the work done on these shunting engines. We have 5 remote control shunters based in Celsa works Cardiff. They are operated by a remote box carried by the operator. They are "fun" when they go wrong

Looks like a normal load for a coal hauler, in fact there is a bit of room for another couple of teaspoon fulls of slack on there!
