Slew ring swap
Put a new slew ring in the 120 today. Good team effort only the final drives to fill in the morning. It a mind over matter job, if you dont mind it doesn't matter! Once you get into it its not that bad!!!

Like anything Clive when you have the hang of it then it becomes fairly straight forward if somewhat hard work but very rewarding nonetheless.

Hi Jeremy,
I agree theres a lot of hard work involved, but I dont think that job is ever straight forward.
Theres a lot of very carefull jacking to be done and one false move could spell disaster.
There's the rotary distributor to deal with too with pipes and oil everywhere.
I've done a few slew rings on jacks, ( Komatsu, Poclain and Priestmans), but I've never been brave enough to pull the cariage out as Clive did here. I always jacked the machine straight up, pulled out the old ring, slid the replacement into the sandwich, and carefully lowered the top back on.
The job is much easier and safer with a crane.
The thing that hurts is the cost of a replacement ring It pays to keep them greased and replace the long seals if or when they get damaged.

Re: Slew ring swap
I never bother driving out the undercart myself it seems pointless unless there is a load of snapped off bolts, but we all do things different??? I also try to do this job by myself unless the driver is a known skin (to Me) as things can go off kilter fast, I usualy allow 2 days for the job done alone, as the sleepers (timbers) take a bit of carting, Clive it looks like you have a Football team on the Pay-roll, I once copped 2 of these jobs on the same tme on 1 site on Daewoo 210's (easy coins)

Re: Slew ring swap
Got to say the lead man Martin (blue overalls ex Leverton years ago) made the job so easy. The other guy Phil (orange overalls) just retired from Finnings. They both new the crack inside out.
Nice concrete yard made taking the bottom out and putting back in easy. 3 pairs of eyes gets the top on the bottom and bolt holes alligned in no time. Worst bit, lining up the slew motor gear in the ring teeth.
It was comforting having that steel table under the back, good bit of insurance.
Line boring the boom foot main frame tomorrow and new ram seals on the lift ram, new water pump fitted today and a few odd jobs to do. Back to work Monday! (if there arn't any f*c* ups!)

Oh, and the rings wasn't dear. B and C reconditioning service exchange £990 plus £130 collect and deliver plus VAT. I thought that very fair. After 12000 hours she needed a new one.

Bigkit, I used to flog my old slew rings to B&C, that is the knackers that I would take out.
