I'm looking for a 360!

Post #1 by jimfoster4 » Sun Sep 01, 2013 9:54 pm

I know its a long shot but I'm looking to buy an excavator, anything from 4 to 20 tons, preferably long reach for cleaning ponds etc but anything considered. Only for farm use so nothing too new or expensive 8-) . Located near Harrogate. Cheers.

Needs to be about 3k cheaper but it looks, on the face of it, in good nick. Probably too far?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331009900105?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Thanks Essexpete, I've had a look at it and yes it appears to be straight enough. As someone with little experience of 360's how does a 814 powerslide compare in reach terms with equivilant fixed boom machines and what are the main things to look for? cheers, Jim.

I don't think that model (or era of that model) had a very good name but they are fairly simple but parts are becoming more scarce. I cannot think that machine [ebay] has particularly high hours. I bought a later grey cab version a few months back and for a bit of muck shifting it is quite good. It is heaps better than an old Hymac it replaced but a dinosaur compared to a modern machine. I think they have a good reach compared with most machines. They are a bit high to climb on to but good vision for ditch or loading. The big boom to the side is a bad blind spot.
Told to look out for slow hydraulics when hot, leaks around the tracking motors, make sure it tracks straight in both directions, check oil in final drives and slew gear box. I guess, as for any old machine , if the running gear is really shot you are looking at £££. The main hyd pumps are dear (even second hand) on any variable displacement piston pump.

If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!!

Out of those I'd look at either the Hymac 580 or the Akerman. Anything Japanese of that vintage is probably past it's prime and parts prices (if even available!) are likely to be crippling!
