Happy days.Privitisation of the railways was a bad thing. The passenger services are a mess with too many companies and the travelling public are treated to overcrowded trains.
On the freight side,if it were not for the good will of its staff that go the extra mile to keep things running,it would be a shambles. Its middle managers are poor and only think about improving their handicap in golf.Staff have been cut back on the front line so much that in our patch we have a manager each.

Eg we have 5 production managers, two area managers and at any one time Five front line staff on duty. with an area from Swansea to Didcot /and South West

.Also, because safety cost money, you can only guess what wins.We used to moan about BR,but,my god,it was run far far beter in those days.
Very sad.
