Hi Dave, the rock i`m crushing is generally soft, but there is pockets of hard limestone in it,with not only is it hard, its also very abrasive. The impactor crusher is a fast crusher,250-300 tons per hour, but because of the design of it,wear plates, hammers ect,its not really suitatable for hard/abrasive rock.
They took the impactor away thurs the 25th of feb, back to the yard for new hammers & wear plates, then it went to another job.The Sandvick jaw crusher went to Portland,Dorset,as it would`nt crush small enough for my job(75mm product),& the Terex Finlay jaw crusher went from Portlant up to me.So after all of that,i had a week off,& went back to Shrewsbury yesterday.I`ve gone from doing 250-300 tph with the impactor,to around 150 tph with the jaw,so a bit slower with some waiting/reading time waiting for the hopper to clear.
The first pic we may have seen, taken in 2009 with my Hitachi the orange blob in the far distance.I`m crushing in the far distance on the right hand side at the top.The whole top ridge from the last bench up has to come out,so i may be here all year .The bench is around a mile long. The other pics are the working area.I`m taking it down to the level that the crusher & JCB is on.I reckon we will need a dumper soon, with only a L120E.The Cat 740 is the quarrys(will post in Dumptruck section that story!)just hauling away this morning to maintain the "highway in the sky"haul road.

Yes Joe,it is/was my machine!!I think that is me in it as well.If you look closely enough, the sign writing has been coloured over by pic edititer(?) i reckon. Also, its in Dolyhir quarry,Hereford, which was in oct last year,in the same spot & position where HM Plant came to inspect it,with its missing top roller.
We have not had a breaker in those quarrys since i was there in oct.

Hi Jason.Yes,i`ve heard about the job.I think we have another job starting in Liskard(?)soon as well, crushing for 5 years!!I`ve been asked if i want the job. That would suit me fine for 5 yrs
Joe,my 350 has now been sold & is gone .I dont think i will have another machine,as the dust has got into my bloodstream again so i`m staying on crushing.
We had to replace the jaw this week in the Finlay crusher as it was worn,& crushing 40 ton per hour .With a new jaw fitted & closed down as tight as it will go(crushing to 75mm)i`m now crushing 100-150tph.Also had trouble with the JCB again, engine light on,low power fault codes,& another set of 4 fuel filters fitted .
I`ve come home now for a few weeks as my wife is now out of hospital, but is going in on weds to be induced to have our first baby.Off to Wainwrights in Somerset mon on a loading shovel crushing, then off for 2 weeks for the baby. Then back to Bayston Hill for the rest of the year at least.I`ve left the caravan up there in storage,£5 p/week secured storage,as aposed to £60 odd pound to tow it home & back there again.

Re: Bayston Hill Quarry/Walters
Well, just an update after being back since the baby.Been a bad week. While i was away, the JCB had big problems.I dont know the correct terms, but the drive unit from the engine to the hydrualic pump shear`d its self,& in the process, punched a large hole through what i would call the bell housing Major ongoing oil leaks from the valve block area, oil cooler radiator is cracked & weeping oil,& its getting through a set of fuel filters every 3 weeks. The JCB had a service while i was away,& on thursday the engine started loosing power & cutting out, engine light on with low power warnings & fault codes. The local JCB dealer only had in 3 of the 4 filters,so replaced them, but its worse than before. The only filter left is a tiny one in the electric lift pump.Picked that up yesterday morning,so will run it monday untill it plays up,then change it.If it cures the issues, that will save £90 a time on the other 3 filters. Also, the engine oil sample from the service came back bad,soJCB them selfs came in to take a fresh sample,so will wait to hear of the outcome.
Also had the taildrum bearing on the crusher main conveyor sieze, causing the main shaft of the drum to wear flat.So the shaft has been built back up with weld & ground off to fit the new bearing. Now we have an ongoing battle to keep adjusting the belt tentioners to get the conveyor belt running true,as it keeps running one sided, which causes a whole load of problems
Walters are now aproaching the end of the muck shift there. The Cat 385 that had final drive issues is back up & running at last.So they have 2 385B `s,1 Hitachi 350/3,& a mixed fleet of Volvo A30D/E`s,& A40D/E`s,a D8T & 2 D6R`s.
Will try to add some more pics soon
