I've run into this problem a few times and can't come up with a viable work around.
The problem is the minimum number of characters required to make an 'acceptable' word.
Using my most recent attempt as an example, I was looking for the most appropriate place to put a photo of a JCB 3D4.

I'll ask Holger about this but guess the software may not be adaptable?

It is a server side setting, words with less than 4 characters are not indexed for search.

Yeah, I get the 'what' and the 'why'. Trouble is it limits so many "on topic" searches (some brands and most models).
I guess the external search is the most practical work-around.
