Hi from Ireland
Hi from Ireland
Hi my name is Kris and my partner and I recently moved into a small house in Ireland, we have inherited a very old & rusty JCB 3c ii that looks as though its spent the last decade in the hedge, I have a fair amount of mechanical experience but none with JCB's so hope to pick some of your brains as I try to get it up and running, so far we have cut the grass and brambles away, I've had the rocker cover off to check vavles aren't seized, moved the crank very slightly by hand to also make sure its not seized, I've also taken out and put back in the injectors because it was full of water, spun it over to remove water etc... next on to the fuel I think, we will see how I get on. thanks

Re: Hi from Ireland
Welcome to the forum, sounds pretty good, there are manuals in the downloads area. The serial number is always handy as then you know what parts you need. I would also put in a vote for pics too. I can assure you that you'll enjoy your JCB once fixed. Probably worth giving the fuel tank a good clean as they get really filthy, also worth changing oils and filters. There is a small filter on the outlet of the tank, it's worth removing that while you're there and cleaning it. You might be wanting to test the injectors, as water in the cylinders can cause injector issues.

Hi Sandy thanks for the message
Will have a look for the serial number next couple of days,I think I noticed an ally plate somewhere on the near side ( depending on where your from of course) and yes found the manuals, very useful! Think I will try getting it running off a 20 litre can to begin with as don’t want to invest to much before I know it’s ok, cab is very rotten but that seems pretty normal going by others I’ve seen but it also doesn’t have a rad cap on it or a fan belt so water pump wasn’t running last time it ran, belt is still there but broken, maybe one of the pulleys seized up…. fingers crossed head and head gasket ok etc…

Hi and welcome good luck with your JCB project, these are hardy old machines, so long as the engine turns freely then you should be okay, the cab rot is to be expected, let us know how you get on.

Re: Hi from Ireland
That plate has all the numbers but check in the locations on the skid too (except the JCB number which can only be found on the plate), there is a gearbox number too, under the seat on the rear flange, starting 10B (often missed on the plate). The cabs always go, quite a big job in your case. You'll need the cap and belt before running, also check the water pump and alternator spin ok. Nice JCB, wonder if the silencer is still there! (if not be prepared for noise when it runs, there will be plenty)
