Western ex , was Cheyenne driving that one    . I bet Les Dark and the charge hand were out in force taking pics of this near miss eh? :wtf: . In which pit did this happen as i worked in Melbur pit back in 2004 and remember seeing the 773's and 775's working shifting stent. I was working stripping top soil on the tip extension phase of Melbur tip and was being loaded by Lobby's operators John and Antony .

Apologies, just seen your message! The pic was indeed taken at Melbur, on 86 tip, but well before 2004, I left Western Area about 1999 and went to Central area till I retired early in 2001. Can't recall the driver, but the tip was an accident waiting to happen, horrible stuff. As you suggest, a major H&S incident! (Weren't supposed to take photos really.......)

No worries , Just wondered if you knew them. Was that Central Training/ Rapid Hire ? (Phil and Sandra Mingo) you worked for or an area?. I worked with a bloke from down St.Austell who worked for Western Ex, He was called Preston Rickard don't know if you knew him but i recently found out that he passed away a year or two back :( sad really as he was a real character   when he worked up Lee Moor pit with us on Rapid Hire   .

Jim, I knew Preston very well. So many of the old crew are gone now. I worked for most of my 30 odd years in Western Area, but ended up through err...managerial decisions in Central Area with lovely days out at North Goonbarrow! Rapid Hire were about in my time, but now its Hydrex I think. A lot of guys took early retirement from W/Ex and went straight back to work with Rapid Hire, not me, I left for good, and went to work on the River Fal! Western Ex had several hundred drivers once I think, the last I heard there were 20 odd.

Foden, Euclid, Aveling Barford, Terex, Cat come to mind including 10 years on the same R-50, and five years with Shephard Hill Barfords.

Don't miss it a bit! (Although there were some good times)
