roller identification help

just purchased a pedestrian roller, not a clue what it is. but I can start it and it goes forward and reverse. having problems getting the clutch to engage /disengage for the vibrator
any help as to what it is . As all the manufactures plates have either been painted over or have fallen off with corosion

Take the side cover off ( right side viewed fron the handle ) and see if anything is sticking on the linkage or clutch.

See that you have taken the side cover off to expose the clutch.
You now need to start the roller and operate the vibrator clutch to see if it is engauged.It could be that it will need stripping and cleaning and inspect the plates for wear. Also check the operating linkage for wear and adjustment. Also remove the vibrator drive belt and check that the vibrator shaft bearings are ok.

think it might be closest to a stothert&pitt v37, it preceded the w71

Hi Rob, quick question - is the roller for a job or is it just to play about with as a toy? Just wondering if they are collectable or not!
