Well I guess I have been here for some time and never really put much up so I better share something I have gotta do some work on my old D7 3T
its got a Letourneau blade double drum PCU Im taking that off and making it into a hydraulic A&T blade
a few years ago it ran a bit low on water and well when I poured water in I cracked a head so due to other stuff going on in life I have only got around to it now
anyway have been collecting parts for it for a few years now and I will need it for a big job (or at least a big job for me in june july & august so time to get cracking
I only learnt about these pre-combustion chamber in recent times and told that that was the most likely thing so I thought whip them out an with any luck all my problems will be solved yeah right
so some eager person in the past had taken to the big buts that hold the injectors in with a cold chisel I had a huge drama getting the injectors out one of them had almost no nut left so I cut it out with the gas axe a bit rough I know another came out still stuck in the pre-combustion chamber so I finally got these parts out they all looked good to me except the crook cut in half injector

the took some swinging off a bar to get them to move

URL of the original image: http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag265/MrsMackPaul/IMG_0226_zpsbtrsp20l.jpg
so I thought I better rip the head off before I attack it with the gas axe thes pre combustion chambers looked fine to my untrained eye so out with wire brush and look what I found

URL of the original image: http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag265/MrsMackPaul/IMG_0262_zps48hadkns.jpg
so I found real bad rust scale in the water manifold and two thermostats were missing parts so my theory is the cracked head was blowing back thru the head and loosened all the rust

URL of the original image: http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag265/MrsMackPaul/IMG_0221_zpstnr0gt2o.jpg
not sure what this pipe does but not much at the moment

so I decided to pull the other head and check it out its spotless so I feel my theory is fairly sound about all the rust scale
I have found a welding place in Townsville who feel they can weld up the head up ok they have been recomended from a few places
so I will run thead up tomorrow and see what they say

Are you stopping in farming or just changing location?
Norm
Norm we dont know any more, in more recent years it feels like no one wants farmers anymore in Australia, the government is always giving farmers a hard time out here with more and more paper work and rules and other BS like that
The public seem to believe we are to blame for everything these days
I really enjoy farming just not the BS that goes with it
So in answer to your question we dont know what we want to do anymore, I havent been happy growing sugar cane for a fare few years and for the first time in my life I dunno what to do so we are gunna take a break for a while, maybe 12 months or more and just leave the money invested till something sparks our interest
Sorry for the long winded answer

Being on this side of the pond I thought farming agriculture and that kind of thing was what the main stay of your neck of the woods was all about. Didn't know there was that much BS to go with it .

Norman it would appear that there is no end of BS with farming in most countries it does my head in because we all need to eat Daft as it seems there is one hell of a lot of knowledge needed to farm from crop growing to keeping cattle, like most things technology and progress have changed the farming industry beyond recognition unfortunately many of the benefits have been offset by unwanted interference from politicians.
