Arrow Concrete Breaker.

Here we see a strange machine which in 1973/4 when this photo was taken was quite a normal sight before the hydraulic hammers took over.

I woder if there are any of these machines still operational??

Look like a Forktruck with a hammer instead of the forks.

Yeh, it just used to work on gravity to make the impact, as you see the point was pulled up by a cable and then let go ???!!! High tech eh!! :dizzy:

found this photo of concreate breaker taken at leiston 1965 on hire to cransford
A local concreate crushing ,haulage demolition firm bought one of these about 3 years ago
very low hours it was found in building on bentwaters airbase when it was closed with 2 more
When I was last in his yard it was in there

This is the modern day equivalent of the Arrow-the Antigo breaker.It works on the same guillotine principle with a 5 ton "arrow wedge" weight that drops from a 2 metre height capable of cracking concrete slabs up to 1 metre thick.There is some footage of one of these machines at work on the "JCB's at work" video/dvd. :thumbs_up: Tim

That's a very interesting piese of kit, Graham. Presumably after 'rubbleising' the concrete, it's rolled and tarmac laid on top.
