You can check compression without a tester, just turn over the engine with the starter and the stop control pulled out and if one cylinder is different you need to check tappet clearances, if it's all regular then test the injector.

Re: Classic pictures Updated 02/06/2024

Sorry for the delay Pete, I am indeed very keen on Major conversions, great to see them still around. Always like seeing the old films with Ford actively seeking ever more conversions. I have often found it difficult to believe that Ford actually managed to get so much out of the Major, who could ha...

Re: Classic pictures Updated 25/05/2024

I don't think there's any Ebro vehicle with the 3DII, the van looks like a 60's SAVA, the lorry is more likely a 60's Pegaso, Ebro lorries at the time were similar to Ford and Thames designs. Didn't think there would be tinted windows on Spanish JCB's. Both the lorry and the van were manufactured by...

Re: JCB 3c II fuel in the oil - fuel pumps?

See what you think of the accelerations, it sounds pretty clear one cylinder is not the same, also the exhaust cap is moving as if a cylinder is not firing properly. The ATF trick might sort things but not if they're serious (make sure you don't overdo it as ATF is not designed for use as fuel). Rea...

Re: JCB 3c II fuel in the oil - fuel pumps?

I'm actually referring to a dribling injector or similar, the fuel can't burn properly due to the atomisation being poor and it passes down into the oil as it can seep through the rings easily. Although it's unlikely there is a chance a push rod might have bent which could also cause a sound like th...

Re: JCB 3c II fuel in the oil - fuel pumps?

I think one cylinder isn't firing very well, check all the injector lines are tight, it would be nice to see how it sounds under a bit of load. Looks like you have a DPA injector pump there. Also see if loosening one injector line at a time you notice differences in running or not, you'll need to ru...

Re: JCB 3c II fuel in the oil - fuel pumps?

Like the idea of a video (Mr MacGregor has no silencer so sounds different from most but odd running will be noticed anyway). It does sound a bit like the injector pump seal has gone but test the lift pump first to be sure (repro part quality is often poor), as changing the seal on a DPA pump is a b...

That's a nice one, quite big too. You can't miss a Major here!
