After a long time trying to start it, I gave up and left it a few days. When I tried after that it started first go, which was a relief. So thanks again for all the suggestions. I did try unscrewing the dial but it did not raise, i pulled at it but no joy.
Maybe I should take it out and try and clean/free up?
