Dumper brake stuck

Post #1 by derryor1994 » Sat Feb 08, 2020 10:39 pm

Hi there..I have a stothert and Pitt sxd030 dumper recently bought it off a friend who left it parked up outside for 4 years. Brought it home got everything going and took it for its first spin after 1 minute or so dumper started to die out clutched and instantly stopped no freewheeling. Won’t move in 3rd and only in 2nd for a couple of seconds any ideas where to start with brakes.

Brakes perhaps? Has it got inboard oil immersed discs with cable actuated levers operating the handbrake? Sometimes the hand brake can not release properly and cause the brakes to bind. As the dumper is driven the brakes heat up and bind more.

No handbrake fitted at the moment and brake lines to rear axel disconnected only the pipe to front axel left on. Yes I think there inboard oil brakes can these stick or break internally

With machine jack up off the ground I can turn all wheels by hand...but when jacked up running and in gear I can stop each wheel by hand also with no real resistance :doh

So does the engine run normally up and down the rev range when the dumper is stationary?
With regard to stopping with out free wheel will the dumper coast on a slope? (be careful). If there are not any horrendous noises from the gear box/transfer box have you got odd size wheels/tyres?

Sounds promising, lets hope all is good to go. Make sure you get all your brakes hooked up and working.
Cheers Cobba
