3cx with the leyland 4/98nt engine, blowing water out through the filling cap on top of the engine,
any ideas what is causing this?
the temp gauge is starting to rise from 40/50 to 80/90 and cools down again at tick over. though i topped up with 1litre of water
New radiator and water pump fitted last month, as the fan had broken off and busted the orginal radiator

Typical Head gasket gone by the sounds of it - Not major surgery but certain protocols have to be adhered to to ensure success. Worst case is a cracked block. Hope this helps.

Agree with head gasket. It might pay to give the head a little overhaul whilst off and ideally take it to someone that can check that it is not out of true or cracked. I would also have the radiator out for a proper clean and flush. I am sure that head gasket problem we had years ago was down to a dirty rad that was noy obvious on cursory inspection.

look for oil in water also as these engine's are prone to cracked and porous liner's

Re: 4/98NT engine blowing water out through the fill cap
I had a minor leak on my 3DII after new cylinder head gasket.
Check the small m8 bots between cylinder head cover and cylinder head. They use to be drilled all through the cylinder head to the water chamber. If sealant is not used when mounting the cover, water can leak throug the bolts into the top of cilinder head.
I am very bad explaining but for sure you are better understanding than me explaining.
Yours,
Lewis

Hi all,
just got the head back on, skimmed and pressure tested
however straight away the cooling system is pushing up out through the fill cap again, and engine overheats
oil is ok
is this a cracked block?
how do i fix, or should i buy a complete doner engine?

First thing, have you let the water level settle down.. You may have over filled it. If its not that, you may have cracked block. There are firms around the UK that offer a recon short block.I think I have seen a company in tractor and machinery.Check that the radiator is not blocked.I had same symptom on a Perkins 4108.The rad was bunged up with leaves.Get that checked first as its a cheaper option.
Good luck
