Northfield Dumpers

Post #1 by XS650 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:22 pm

Another defunct British maker , heres some pics from 1964 , modern looking dump trucks in desperate looking factory. Wonder if these hid a Fordson Major like the Whitlocks.

Great find there again Craig!

One of the quarries we did maintenance work for when I was an apprentice in the early 70's had a pair that looked fine, but lay under the processing plant with flat tyres. Nobody seemed to know exactly why, especially since the stuff they used was in a much worse state. I always wondered if it was some kind of spares problem.

Craig those images are brilliant.
According to The Earthmover Encyclopedia by Keith Haddock, Northfield dumptrucks were built by Northfield Industrial (or is it Engineering  ) in Yorkshire, with the F7 introduced in 1957 (12 tons)followed by the F9 (15 tons) and the F12 (20 ton) with production ceasing some time in the mid 60's
Additionally according to 1972 book Eartmoving Vehicles printed by the Olysager Auto Library, the Northfield F7 made its debut at the 1961 International Construction Equipment Exhibition at Crystal Palace, quoting a turning circle of 18ft 09 in.
