Nicks Blog | Downwell Demolition Brings Flyover Down to Eart

Post #1 by RSS Bot » Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:27 pm

Demolition contractor Downwell Demolition has recently completed a 6 week project demolishing the Sir John Hawkins flyover in Chatham with help from excavators by Hitachi and Komatsu. The flyover's demolition is part of a multimillion pound redevelopment of Chatham city centre which includes the building of a new bus station and expansion of the Pentagon shopping centre.

For decades the 130 metre long concrete structure had stood uncomfortably between Chatham's shops and houses. The flyover consisted of eight span sections and their respective support pillars, which at their tallest point reached 6 metres.
