Re: Some sheduled maintenance
This D8R worked fine all last year until February, when it developed a slight flutter.
I thought it was an injector, but TC soon informed me the camshaft was buggered.
We had the thing in bits quick enough and stripped the engine to look at things.
Apart from dropping a cam follower ,we had been lucky to avoid total destruction.
On a bright note,TC felt no need to replace any pistons, bearings etc.
Overall, the engine was clean and in good shape.
I replaced the head and oil pump as standard, allthough the old head was probably fine.
I poked various new hydraulic pipes into it whilst the belly plates were off and cleaned the coolers for good measure. They were clean though.
It went back to work about 5 weeks later and is currently working into next week before the Christmas Holliday

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
Hired in this tractor to help out with an unusually busy period at both the quarries I cover for a couple of months.
It's a good D8T ,but the driver was a drug addict and tipped it over twice.
I would have sacked him,but it wasn't my place to make thst desision.
However,it highlighted the fact, that another D8 and ripper would be handy to have.
I offered to buy the D8T off the chap that I'd hired it from, but he didn't want to sell it.
So,the hunt was on to find another D8R.

Meanwhile,I'd taken a job on for the old D8's in April that took it through until July.
It's a good tractor and gave no bother on the job.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
The other D8 didn't see action until late June as I'd had enough on my plate with the other D8H and the D8R.
I was still on the hunt for that elusive D8R that took me to USA and Spain ,but I just couldn't get what I wanted.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
By July,I met a chap that offered to buy all my entire collection of D8's off me,including my pick up.
He made me a strong offer which I accepted with a heavy heart.
I told him that I needed to keep the D8R and the pick up though.
It's worked out well for us both as I still help out abit with his new D8's.
They both did a couple of months work for him before the end of the scraper season.
They are currently standing in Lincolnshire for now.

Re: Some sheduled maintenance
Well, due to the lack of quality D8R's being available to buy,I decided to buy a very low houred D8T.
It wasn't really part of the plan, but that's life
