My father in law has an old Collins rough terain forklift that he bought a few yearsback .
He has a few issues with the brakes .
From what we can see there is a rod entering the belled section of the axle on each side .
When the brakes are pressed not a lot happens other than a horrible mechanical noise .
I've not really had a good look yet , but does anyone know this type of machine or even if there is a workshop manual available
Any help appreciated .

Re: Collins rough terain forklift
Without knowing what the axles came from it's not easy to diagnose but I would guess they are wet type oil immersed discs similar to a Ford 6600, so my first thought would be checking the oil level in the housing, and making sure it is oil - not water!
ps. Pics are good, we all like pics!

If a LandRover doesn't leak oil, it's run out.

Thanks HB , appreciated
We have a few bits of brake lining in the cab that were left over from the brakes being done when he bought it - allegedly being done ....
The rod enters at right angles to the axle , I'm thinking some sort of drum , but I know what you are saying .
I will try and get some pics sent to me . I was under it with the good clothes on last night in the rain
We had thought it was a JCB 3cx style axle , but it isn't .
Anyone with a manual , it would be just great and we would know what we are dealing with .
