Coventry Climax Forklift Engine

Post #1 by rik16v205 » Tue Sep 01, 2015 11:17 pm

Hi everyone.

I own a Coventry Climax forklift, 2.5ton 1990 model but I'm struggling to find anything about it at all.

The first problem I have is making a positive ID on the engine, I know its a Perkins and many look the same or similar in pictures but I can't find a engine number to reference this with.

I've uploaded some pictures if anyone can help please.

Thank you
Rich

Thanks for the welcome :D

Thats great thanks for your help ID'ing the engine, ill be ordering a rocker gasket and breather valve for it in the morning.

The main oil leak I was concerned about turned out to be nothing more than the oil dipstick tube had rubbed through from badly routed hydraulic hoses.

Next job - Just got to fix the starter motor now, 2 pinion teeth have sheared off where it engages the flywheel.

Don't suppose anyone knows if an alternative starter is available like a landrover starter rather than these CAV units?

Cheers
Rich

Hi Rich there is somebody who advertises starter motors on EBay so perhaps get in touch with them they may be able to help you.

Cheers for that.

The eBay seller is ICS, I had one rebuilt by them a few years ago and it was fine so they have this one now. No one local would even look at a CAV starter motor.

In the mean time I've started painting it. I've also had the shoes out, redone the brake lines, pedal box and modified a landrover master cylinder so the old beast should actually stop now. Its the first time since I've owned it theres actually been a brake pedal that moves.

Just waiting for my waterproof switches and warning lights to turn up before I rewire everything as its a right mess. The dashboard? area has 3 lights not connected to anything plus 2 holes where I assume gauges may have been once upon a time.

Last question if anyone could help me please

What would the original gauges be showing on this forklift? Would it be engine temp and fuel level? Also any idea what the lights are supposed to represent?

Thanks again
Rich

Were there any old gauges that you could actually see? There were not many gauges on the fork trucks that I have operated in the past? The lights would be charging and oil at a guess.

Is there a truck data plate fitted? If not perhaps you can upload a couple of photos and I can id it for you.
We do have quite a lot of Climax parts in stock.
