The Classic Machinery Network

The man from the dark arts came today and gave up after nearly 2hrs, we really need a wiring diagram. The fault lies from the ign switch to what ever it energises. The wires behind the dash are nearly all yellow and soldered in and from there into conduits it's doing me nut in , anyway onwards to the air braking system. Also need a couple 7 inch sealed beam units complete as in the pics, apart from the slight pitting I would like to get them original to save faffing around, the nearest I can see is early land rover etc.

Edit. The stumbling block seems to be the inner and outer bowls. I could repair them it's doable but a bit time consuming.

Sorry I cant help source the lights.

The old Leyland, AEC and most others had all black cabling with labels attatched, needless to say the labels soon disappeared leaving us with a similar problem to yours.

Part of my tool kit in those days was a battery operated electric door bell, ( I don't know if you can buy such a thing anymore). Attatch a small crocodile clip to one bell lead and a probe to the other, connect the clip to the cable you want to trace and probe around for the other end of the cable with the other lead till the bell rings. Simple.

Even now I've been tracing some wires in my sons bus and find that quicker and easier than using a multimeter. Some of the old ways are still the best.

I'm going to repair them it might not be exact (or pretty) but as they're not seen I'm not to bothered but they will be functional, also a guy on the railway is ex RAF auto spark ( long story) just found out.

Fitted ALT to front of engine, it's driven off cooling fan belt, Longer belt fitted, Dynamo is retained at back of block to save making a blanking plate. Made a guard for the ALT as it was close to the outside of the engine compartment.

I'm on the braking system now as it's seized solid. Pics will follow . took all day to post latest.

Hi all.
I managed to get the front pair of brakes off with the help of the O/A torch. Going to fettle and refit before attacking the rear two so as not to have to many bits lying around.

Yes Wayne, it has been heated and beaten. Every moveable linkage on that Loco's braking system is (was) seized. There are only 2 grease points in the whole system. they're on the main brake crank, and they were the worst ones to free. Don't think it's been lubed since year of manufacture(1960)
