It's a fair size lump, so does any one know what size battery should be used on it, amp hours or whatever? It's a 12 volt system and it looks a though it's only had 1 battery on it.
Norm. :?

This engine is the same one that's fitted to a couple of the Priestman cranes at Andrew Beaulah's I asked him what battery to fit? He said any decent size truck battery that will fit in the space allocated for it.

The latest is I got it running this afternoon, not without a few snags (wouldn't be any fun otherwise) put a few pics up, all of it running. The excess fuel return pipe to the tank is badly corroded (leaking badly so that needs replacing (another day) but the engine is as sweet as a nut. Apparently It's been stood for 8 years.
Norm :D

The latest
Been wrestling with the charging system today because it isn't We've narrowed it down to the dynamo, had a look at the brushes etc and it's brand new in there so it's over to someone that knows, :dizzy:

The dynamo is off the loco now and is going to be checked by some people in the know (allegedly) Can the dynamo lose its magnetism after long periods of inactivity?

Norman the dynamo has field coils similar to an electric motor I would suspect if there is an issue with it then the armature and brushes are the most likely culprit.

If I wire the dynamo to the battery should it run like an electric motor and if it spins does that mean it's OK?
