It,s a 5110 re-incarnated, 300 D series family cab, C32 engine and some subtle other things but thats about it

That sums it up perfectly!

The early 5110Bs were not very good at all, but they kept tweaking it and it got a lot better before the program was cancelled. It certainly speaks to where they were at when this new unit looks nearly identical.

To an earlier point; when this machine becomes "officially" available, the factory in Dortmund will not produce any more RH40s. Despite being an old design, it still sells and several have been delivered since the Caterpillar buyout.

I find it curious that with both the 6015B and 6020B there appears to be no plan for front shovel versions. While I completely realize that this configuration is a small percentage in these size classes, there is a market.

SRB,

Your avatar is curious to me. I can read the bottom half of it, but not the top. Can you tell me what it says? I've tried to enlarge it, but it just breaks up into pixels. Are you working with Dortmund in some way? Feel free to PM me if you would prefer?

If I had been a better investigator, I would have found this in an area nearby. Luckily another guy did, but he never mentioned it while we were there so I didn't get any photos of my own of it.

6020B will get a shovel option down the track, not the 6015, they need to get these backhoes commercially available ASAP but they also need to be better than the current competition too

What has been the main issues with the 5110's in operation so far?

At least two of the early failures I heard of were with the Rotek bearings breaking, but there were also some boom and stick fractures. That's the extent of my second hand knowledge.

Here's a photo of another unit alleged to be in Alberta some months ago posted on another forum. As you can see it is outfitted with a much better system of getting on and off the machine.

5110B enjoyed a good reputation in the field during its time, it had oversize components (5130 swing drives, valves etc) and benefitted from experience gained on larger machines. The 5130 and to a lesser extent the 5230 suffered some ills in the field, that said 194 units of 5130 were built with avg hours a couple years ago of 55000 and 79 units of 5230 were built with avg hours again a couple years ago of 78000.
