Was there an original Cat 977, with no letter suffix (977H, 977L, 977K, etc)?

Some time ago, someone sent me a Caterpillar product list covering the track loader range. It covered everything from the HT4 to the B-series rear engined models.

The 977D, E, H, L and K models are also covered (a 983B apparently exists as well), but no mention of an "original" 977. I'm pretty sure that I've heard of such a machine existing but I just wanted to confirm this is/isn't the case?

There was apparently also a range of Logger track loaders available from Caterpillar. Information at the moment is lacking, but at least the 955K and 933C machines had this attachment available to them.

Best regards

Gavin

I think it was launched in 1955 and designated "No. 977". I enclose a couple of pics I found in the net.

Nice machine! Thanks for seeking the pictures out.

I'm a little confused about why its missing from the product line but at least I know for sure now.

That restored 977 really is a beautiful machine. Its nice to see at least one has been saved from the scrapheap.

Best regards

Gavin
