Lovely pics tim,the old pit village where i live was demolished mostly by a 951 and a 955,the 955 had a purpose built rsj steel beam with a flat plate on the end for pushing down buildings, the demolition company was called limbro demolition and i spent hundreds of hours watching it as a boy, sadly i took no pics as i was too young ,but i have a local history book with a picture of it in action and will post it along with a few others.

This pic was the first machine picture I ever took !!!! It was taken in 1978 as a young lad in our village . This was taken outside my Grandparents house . I was 10yrs old & it was the only pic I was allowed to take on My Mothers Camera !!
The machine was a CASE 1150 B ...

Another machine I spent hours watching as a small boy....This was a 955L Belonging to Limbro Demolition of Barnsley

Superb pics Sean-love that home made demolition pole on the 955-never seen one properly attached to a track loader before-usually just an RSJ grabbed by the 4 in 1 bucket. Tim

Hi Tim,i must have spent most of my spare time as a kid watching this very machine, its the type of thing i find myselfe daydreaming about most days while at work and being draged round shops with the wife.Limbro demolition spent about three years working just in my village alone.I remember when they went home for the night i would go and sit on the machine, did not seem to be any vandal threat to machines in the 1970s,kids just loved to watch. The houses they were demolishing were national coal board houses, the case 1150 i think Limbro hired in while the 955 was borrowed with its rsj beam to another job for a while but returned a week or so later.Take me back to the 70s  sean

That Cat pic is great Sean. Like Tim I have never seen a set up like that. Just used to occasionally use and RSJ or hefty timber in the 4 in 1. We used to use the cables more to pull 'soft' buildings down.
I agree Sean I'd love to go back to the 70s. I spent 4 years as a boy from the age of 10-14 working and occasionally driving (health and safety) with 1 firm on 20+ different jobs in North London (during school hols and at weekends) using 951s or 955s and one B100 that was owned. I remember at the firms yard a line of about 8 Cats. I didn't end up working with machines (couldn't get a job on machines in early 80s recession hit UK) but they are such great great memories for me. Sadly and probably rather stupidly I didn't take one picture. WHY !!!!!!

Like both of you I have always had a fascination for demolition machines and in the mid-70's i worked as a brickies labourer for a Guildford building firm and for about 2 years we worked around south and west london. There seemed to be plenty of demolition sites around at the time where i first came across the London contractors such as Tower Demolition,J&A ,Haslam &Whymark,Syd Bishop,London Demolition,Willment Bros and TW Robinson amongst others but sadly i didn't take any photos either. At least we have now got the internet which allows us to see pictures that we might have never seen and make it much easier for enthusiasts of the future. Here's an old Komatsu ad with a D50S belonging to London Demolition of Hounslow
