Dresser Drott

Post #1 by brian » Wed Nov 11, 2009 12:24 am

Back in the 1990's I was doing some of the earthworks at Little Barford power station. I remember one gang working there had a Dresser drott working there, if memory serves a 125 or 165, I'm not sure. Can anyone else remember seeing it, or have any idea who it belonged to? It's the only Dresser drott I've seen in the UK and I'm curious to know a bit about it.

Isn't it amazing how the Drott did everything at one time except dig founds. The 360 hydraulic excavator totally obilterated the crawler loader concept not only in function and speed of loading but operator comfort - how many remember the constant trundling and back shake (ache) of the crawler loader just to load and empty one bucket load compared to the near living room comfort of using a 360 excavator to do the same task? - (I do :D )

I remember a bloke importing the last ones to come into Britain, made in Eastern Europe. He was quoted as saying every one was sold before the ship docked!

Wonder where they went?
