When I started work in 77 RMC had an absolute stranglehold on ready mix supply on Teesside. There was lots of massive civil engineering going on building Petrochem and steel plants and their orange mixers were everywhere. RMC had Ford D 's in the main but still quite a few Albion Reivers with the LAD cab.
One day on a very big pour a sixteen year old RMC apprentice fitter turned up driving a mixer !

From web films RMC Readicrete Leyland Super Comets , I never knew you could get 6 wheel Leyland Comets till recently .

Craig, yes there was a company at Dudley who had a fleet of these six wheeler Comet cement mixers; I think one of them is in preservation somewhere.

I rember some Leyland 6 wheeler LAD cabs running out of our local RMC plant. The last were around 1970 on J plates. They looked so old even then. I guess they were cheaper than the Ergo models? So many different models and variations with Leylands before even Albion and AEC are thrown into the mix.
Who can explain Retriever, Bears, Bisons and Buffalos? Oh and Comets and Super Comets.

We have Leylands various menagerie plus AEC Marshall, Mammoth , Albion Reiver, Guy BIg J, Scammell Routeman, maybe others all in various specifications.

I think there was some as late as 'K' plate in the Dudley mixer fleet.

Yes think they were the last LAD's 1972, I started work in construction in 77 and RMC still had the odd Albion Reiver among hordes of their replacement the Ford D Series. Apparently the LAD was kept on as an option to the Ergo cab because it was less susceptible to damage on site work.
