Good thread idea Craig

Mixer trucks (transit mixers as called in some places) are a much neglected item. Most are not used to actually mix the concrete but to keep it aggitated as it is deliverded from the batch plant to the site and to place it in the hole. An adaption adoped on som machine was to replace the simple shoot with a convert to enable direct placement at greater sistance from the truck without barrowing or shoveling the mix. American trucks are often back to front from the UK design with the discharge from the front.

I'll pose the question to readers of who were the builder of them in the past, and start off with a few names that spring to mind;

1 - Stothert and Pitt of Bath
2 - Ritemix of ?
3 - Liebherr of Germany
4 - ?

They are an item rarely preserved does anybody know of any examples in museums or private collections ?

Dave

thanks Dave

I have read in the past that the big ready mix concrete companies would never sell a mixer as it enabled smaller companies to undercut them . Assume they scrapped the bodies.

Manufacturers -
HYMIX ,British and still on the go with a very HYMAC type of logo were they ever linked ?

Craig just noticed the power unit on the 2rd photo of the premix dodge is a Tractor skid unit :idea: - either a Fordson or a Leyland / BMC i think. (photos a bit small to see)

Probably a Fordson Super Major Skid by the age of the Dodge, if not a Power Major.

This is the only one of these I ever saw , a 8 wheel Foden mixer with triple rear axle.
