Re: Cummins
Dennis Eagle fitted Cummins engines in their Elite range, possibly the last British volume truck manufacturer to use Cummins power? The Cummins replaced the Perkins Phaser, which I believe was unable to meet the emissions targets. Unforunately there was a bit of a problem, in order to fit the low floor cab, radiator size was restricted, so IMO to achieve sufficient cooling power the fan was uprated for the Cummins.
Problem here was when you went off road.... Massive dust cloud made visibility awkward when reversing, and the truck had a tendancy to pull dust and small bits of detritus into the gap between radiator and intercooler, which soon led the engine to start overheating.
I dont know if the results from customer feedback, the loss of sales to Merc with their Econic or the acquisition of Dennis by Ros Roca led to the dropping of Cummins power in favour of Volvo.
