Hi,
Nice selection of trucks here. Question is... At 14:56 there is a Foden '8x4 rigid + 5th wheel' arrangement. Interesting configuration, but what was it's purpose?

the Foden was unusual I could only hazard a guess that it was for greater payload but for exactly what and why this layout wasn't more popular I cannot say?

Could ask on the Truck forum. My guess would be increasing max gvw around the rules of the day?

There is info on truck forum.
Seems it was to max GVW at the time. Short lived, as the artic weights went to 32ton shortly after.

Nice find. I'm sort of familiar with that area around Kyle and I think I'm right (trying to reference a book called 'Road To The Isles' but can't find it) in saying that the road we know now along the south of the peninsula through Reraig and Balmacara was a 1970's creation so their road test would have taken them from Dornie somewhere up over the top towards the Plockton area to approach Kyle from the north-east. An interesting trip with a car so full marks with a truck like that!
The truck reminds me of something Denby might have created.
