The engine will be produced at its Haryana facility
Construction equ-ipment manufacturer JCB on Tuesday unveiled its new engine that would power all its products from April 1.
The new fuel efficient and BS III compliant ‘ecoMAX' engine will come in the range of 76 hp to 150 hp. “We have invested Rs.130 crore in developing this engine, which will be produced from our Ballabhgarh facility in Haryana.
Commitment
The domestic production of JCB engines will enable us to provide the best quality product. We will produce around 40,000 engines a year, starting April 1,” JCB India Managing Director and CEO Vipin Sondhi told journalists here. “India is JCB's largest market and the group's commitment continues with this first specifically designed off-highway engine. This engine is specifically adapted for Indian conditions,” Mr. Sondhi added.
JCB, which sold 21,000 units in 2010 and is aiming 15-20 per cent growth this year, is the largest manufacturer of construction equipment capturing over 50 per cent of market share.
Mr. Sondhi said JCB would primarily use these engines for the domestic market, while later it might explore the possibilities to supply to other JCB group companies.
The company had recently started exports to Indonesia and SAARC countries. JCB in India has two manufacturing facilities — Ballabhgarh and Pune — with a total installed capacity to produce 30,000 units of various machines a year.
It offers 23 models across five categories at a price between Rs.20 lakh and Rs.45 lakh.
