C.E.: 'Plantworx' shows to replace SED from 2013

Post #1 by IBH » Fri Jan 28, 2011 11:49 am

A new construction plant show has been launched following the demise of SED.

Organisers at the Construction Equipment Association will stage the first Plantworx show from May 14-16 in 2013 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.

The new show has already secured the backing of a number of plant giants including JCB, Volvo and Manitou.

Leaders of the association are hoping to attract 10,000 visitors to the three-day event which will have at least 250 exhibitors.

Plantworx will be held every two years to alternate with Hillhead and the show will focus on demonstrating plant and machinery in action.

Organiser RBI announced late last year that SED would be cancelled in 2011 after the show was also dropped in 2010.

The publisher has decided to pull out of the construction plant market completely leaving the way free for the new CEA event.

Association leaders are confident Plantworx will prosper where SED failed because the event is no longer organised by a commercial publisher driven purely by profit.

The association has also consulted with the industry who wanted a biennial event with more of a focus on machines in action.

CEA chief executive Rob Oliver told the Enquirer: “This is not just about putting on a show to make a lot of money out of it.

“This is a trade show ‘for the industry, by the industry’. We are working from a different platform to the organisers of SED.”

The association will publicise rates for exhibitors in May and has already signed-up firms who had decided to stop taking part in SED.

Volvo marketing manager Mark Gunns said: “We weren’t getting the footfall we wanted at SED and decided in 2008 not to take part any more.

“We see this new show as a phoenix arising and are pleased to see it is going back to the basics of demonstrating plant. We believe the show has great potential and we are backing it 100%.”

Plantworx has also received the backing of construction minister Mark Prisk.

He said: “Support for Plantworx from across the sector is a clear signal that the sector is backing the new event in 2013″

Sound like a good plan ... more or less central .. could work well, however, could be traffic problems
